A group of lottery players from Southwestern Ontario will share a $1 million prize from playing Lotto Max.
The 30-person team – featuring people from communities including Dutton, London, Woodstock, Petrolia, Tillsonburg and Mount Brydges, won the MaxMillions prize from the March 18 draw.
Maureen Delainey, the group’s leader, said they have been playing together for 15 years. Some members originally met through work and then other family and friends began to join over the years.
“We play every Friday. I checked our ticket and to my surprise, it was a big winner,” Delainey said while at the OLG Prize Center in Toronto to pick up their win.
The 54-year-old said after shouting with excitement, she started to share the news with the other members.
“And my quiet day just became super crazy,” she said with a laugh.
Delainey said the experience is hard to describe until you experience it yourself.
“It’s beyond amazing – goose bumps everywhere,” she said.
Delainey plans to use her portion towards retirement and fixing her car.
The winning ticket was purchased at 7-Eleven on Commissioners Road in London.
