There is a striking statistical anomaly in League of Legends: in North America, a player who has won 99% of their games leads the rankings in the “Ranked Flex”. With 2188 LP he is #1 in the Challenger rankings worldwide. That actually seems impossible. Apparently things are not going right.

What kind of player is that??

  • The player’s account is called Year Year U Fish, he is a support main (via na.op.gg).
  • Its main champions are Thresh, Nautilus, and Karma.
  • The special thing is: In the “Ranked Flex” the player has a win rate of 98.76%. He has 239 wins this season and only lost 3 times.

    • The number is so impressive because no one comes close: 2nd on the global ranking has 65.09%.

    Is it simply the greatest player of all time? Probably not. In Solo Queue, the player “only” reached Platinum rank, with 15 wins and 7 losses.

    In previous seasons he came up with ranks such as “Diamond 3” (2021) and “Bronze 1” (2020).

    So unless he’s the main character of Kung Fu Hustle and has magically discovered his chi, that seems unlikely.

    Why exactly is he winning so many games? This is currently being discussed in the USA.

    A likely possibility is that he’s playing with players who are actually outstanding, but who intentionally lose matches without him in the flexed ranked to keep their rank low.

    According to gameriv, Year Year U Fish consistently plays with the same players who are much lower in the Flex Rank than he is:

  • For example, it lists the account “Rosermine” who is a “Grandmaster” player in solo queue, meaning one of the best on the server. In the Flex Queue, the account is only “Platinum 1”
  • Other players Year Year U Fish plays with regularly also seem to keep losing matches when he’s not playing with them, but then win practically everything once he joins the team.

    This is a possible explanation: The “Challenger” player Year Year U Fish regularly competes with 4 players who have lower ranks than him, is thus assigned weak opponents and can apparently eliminate them in 99 out of 100 cases.

    Because his teammates are “smurfs” – strong players who pretend to be weak players in order to slaughter weaker players.

    But at the moment this is all just speculation from web sites to explain this anomaly. But it looks like a group of friends have found a way to trick the League of Legends system.
