With three seasons of Dark, Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar knotted brains worldwide. After the end of the science fiction series, people eagerly awaited new mystery material from the two of them, because what better hobbies could there be than tinkering with family trees and coming up with wild theories about time travel? Her new Netflix series 1899 premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. First euphoric reactions hint at what’s in store for us this year.

What is the Dark Team’s new series about?

In 1899, when large numbers of Europeans left their continent for a better life, a steamship full of migrants set sail for the new world. The passengers of different origins carry their last belongings as well as hopes for a better future. However, when they encounter another migrant ship on their journey that was reported missing. Because, according to the series’ official synopsis, what they find on board turns their journey into one horrific nightmare.

Resourceful Redditors have already deciphered the Morse code sent by the blinking light on the ship’s bow: it’s the date of September 24th. Presumably this is a reference to the release of the first long trailer. Netflix’s Tudum event also takes place on this day, where the streaming service advertises its series.

When is 1899 coming to Netflix?

1899 is supposed to Fall or Winter 2022 to Netflix come. The series consists of eight episodes. The cast includes Emily Beecham (Cruella) and Andreas Pietschmann (Dark).
