It is widely known that you do not have the right to vote in Sweden until you turn 18, but in the school election, junior high and high school students are given the chance to have their voice heard. The shoe election is held in connection with the real election and is organized by the Agency for Youth and Civil Society Affairs.

Great interest in Östergötland

In Östergötland, 74 schools participated and 25,114 students from year 7 to the last year of high school voted.

Just as in the parliamentary election, it was the Social Democrats, the Sweden Democrats and the Moderates who received the most votes, even though the distribution between them was reversed. The Sweden Democrats ended up at 28.5 percent, the Moderates at 19.5 percent and the Social Democrats at a modest 16.5 percent.

The center party big on Gotland

On Gotland, the podium places were distributed in the same order as in Östergötland. There are not as many percentage points between the parties as in Östergötland, and this may be due to the fact that there is also a strong fourth party on the island, the Center Party.

Despite a clear fourth place in the school election, the Center Party backs down as in the other elections. In the 2018 school election, they got 20.7 percent and now they are back down to 16.5 percent.

On Gotland, 3,266 students voted across 8 schools.
