Manhandled in the first period by FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich finally won 2-0 against the Spanish club, this September 13, 2022, in group C of the Champions League.
The appearance of this Bayern Munich-FC Barcelona in the Champions League is quite simple to summarize: the first period was to the advantage of the Spanish formation, then in the second period the German club sanctioned Barça’s lack of realism.
In the first half, the Barcelonans indeed get four big chances to score. In the 9th minute, midfielder Pedri stumbles on goalkeeper Manuel Neuer who pushes back his left calf shot. In the 20th, it was the arms of this same Neuer who diverted the ball, following a header from striker Robert Lewandowski. Just before, the Pole, transferred this summer from Bayern to Barça against 45 million euros, had shot just above the frame, on a half-volley (18th). Finally, in the 26th minute, a low shot from winger Raphinha grazed the Munich left upright.
The Bavarians, they have to wait half an hour of play for Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer to give them a first real chance to score (29th).
A reactionary Bayern Munich
In the second half, a much more enterprising Bayern returned to the pitch at the Fußball Arena München. Thus, in the 50th minute, French defender Lucas Hernandez found the fault by beating goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen with a header, on a corner sent to the near post (1-0). In the aftermath, thanks to a nice collective movement, the German striker Leroy Sané presents himself full axis against ter Stegen and slips the ball on the right of the Barça goalkeeper: 2-0.
Despite this double blow, visitors are trying to react. By Pedri especially, whose ball stung ends its race on the right post of Neuer (63rd). Then by Lewandowski who however fails to deceive his former teammate (66th). The German champion held on until the end.
