According to the indictment, the man drove a police car at high speed on county road 600 (the old E4) on April 15 this year. On the road between Lövstalöt and Björklinge just north of Uppsala, he overtook a bus in regular traffic. The bus driver must then have held out and slowed down. When the police car passed the bus, he must have then braked and turned to the right in front of the bus. Then the vehicles collided. No one was injured, but the vehicles suffered sheet metal damage.
According to the chief prosecutor at the Special Prosecutor’s Chamber, which conducts investigations when policemen are suspected of crimes, it is the policeman who drove the police car who caused the traffic accident by taking a conscious risk or otherwise seriously failing to exercise the required attention and caution.
Passengers must testify
At the trial in Uppsala district court, the bus driver will be called as a witness, as well as a passenger on the bus who told the questioning that the bus swerved. A policeman who was a passenger in the police car will also be called to testify.
The accused police officer denies any wrongdoing. He risks a fine.
