Concerns about fewer visitors and rising prices at Utrecht museums: ‘We no longer expect numbers as before corona’

The Woerden City Museum recognizes the national picture of visitors who are absent, but this does not have major financial consequences. “We have about 50 to 60 percent fewer visitors than before corona,” says museum manager Arja van Veldhuizen. “It was very different in 2019, when we had a record number of 13,000 visitors.” It’s not entirely clear how that comes about, but Van Veldhuizen does have her thoughts. “We think people are hesitant to go to a museum anyway,” she says. “In addition, foreign tourists are not yet coming back to our region. Dutch tourists in turn are catching up on their holidays. And we had good weather this summer. Then people don’t visit a museum.”
