He attacked a teammate – and was fired from his Norwegian club.
Now Swedish Rasmus Ahlholm is back in the league, which shocks Norwegian hockey.
“A shock return”, writes VG.
It was in December of last year that the least controversial event occurred. Swedish Rasmus Ahlholm, who has dominated Norwegian hockey for many years, suddenly attacked a teammate during a training session. He pressed his club against his throat, and he was severely sawn for the move.
Unexpected transition
The consequences were also severe. After trial, he had to pay SEK 12,000 in fines, and he was also fired from his club Storhamar. He then moved on to the Slovak league, where during the spring there were ten points in 23 games played. But the stay there will not be long. Today, there was news of a transfer that sent shockwaves through Norwegian hockey. The major newspaper VG writes, in its headline, that it is a “shock return”.
For months after Ahlholm was fired from Storhamar, he is ready for a return to the league. And also to Storhamar’s worst rival, Vålerenga.
– We give him another chance. He is convicted of it and is done with that matter. He has been very humble about what happened, says Vålerenga’s sporting director Gunnar Thögersen to VG.
“Hope people understand…”
It is a controversial transfer, and one is prepared for a mixed reception.
– There may be some negative reactions, but I hope people understand that it is a good hockey player who gets a second chance. It is good with the points that he will produce, says Thögersen.
Ahlholm himself says that he expects reactions, but that he is now ready to start afresh.
– There are many who will like it, but it is up to me to take revenge and all that. I’m here to get revenge.
Rasmus Ahlholm has represented Vålerenga before during his career, and it was controversial when he switched to Storhamar, where he remained for three years, before he was fired.
Here is the situation that got the Swede fired:
