Since the beginning of the summer, numerous reports explain that the market for Li-Fi will probably explode in the years to come, thanks in particular to the involvement of many manufacturers, hitherto a little cautious and above all lacking the resources necessary to produce devices compatible with this new technology. According to the research firm Market Research Future (MRFR), the Li-Fi market could thus reach 2.3 billion dollars by 2030. The IMARC group is even more optimistic, counting on a market easily exceeding 4 billion dollars by 2027. While it is difficult to agree on the figures, the trend seems very clear.
the Li-Fi (for “Light Fidelity”) is a wireless communication technology based on the use of spectrum of light. This technology facilitates two-way communication at high debitin any closed environment equipped with lighting LEDs, whether it is a simple office, a car, an airplane, an operating room or a commercial complex. In terms of throughput, the Li-Fi could in theory make it possible to reach 1 Gbit/s (speeds equivalent to the Wireless). In the laboratory, researchers have even been able to reach speeds of more than 220 Gbit/s, unthinkable to achieve in normal conditions.
Low power consumptionenergy and without waves
The use of light as a source of connection has many advantages, starting with an already existing infrastructure and low energy consumption, all without waves and therefore without the slightest danger for the organism. In addition, it is also a secure solution since it is limited to a dedicated space. Contrary to Wirelesshere the connection will not be able to pass the walls.
The technology has been around for several years now, but has until now been mainly reserved for a few (rare) professionals, fromautomotive, electronics, defence, aerospace and health. But, tomorrow, individuals will also have the opportunity to take advantage of it. Many manufacturers intend to launch compatible connected devices soon.
computers, smartphones or tablets do not have sensor compatible with Li-Fi. But this situation could soon change thanks to the integration in the Linux system of drivers capable of supporting Li-Fi from the pureLiFi company. However, Linux is the basis of a much more popular system: android. Adding Li-Fi to the Linux kernel is therefore only the beginning, before it snowballs and all of our smartphones and computers can one day be compatible.
Last essential condition for Li-Fi to become more democratic: that LED equipment becomes the norm, whether in private homes, businesses or even public places.
