The winners of the Venice Film Festival have been announced

The 79th Venice International Film Festival comes to an end today. Of the Competition for the main prize of the Golden Lion was peppered with big names in international cinema. The official selection included new films by Alejandro González Iñárritu (Bardo), Noah Baumbach (White Noise), Romain Gavras (Athena) and Rebecca Zlotowski (Other People’s Children).

Cannibal film Bones and All wins twice, Brendan Fraser gets nothing

Among the festival’s winners is Colin Farrell, who surprisingly won the Actor’s Award for The Banshees of Inisherin. Cate Blanchett left as a big favorite with the Copa Volpi for the Best Actress home. Taylor Russell, the leading lady from Luca Guadagnino’s cannibal film Bones and All, starring Timothée Chalamet, won Best New Actor. Guadagnino also received the award for directing.

Alongside Cannes and the Berlinale, Venice is one of the most important film festivals and, with its position in August/September, serves as the launch pad for the Oscar season.
