The US becomes a member of the Global Deal partnership, which was launched in 2016 at the initiative of the Swedish government and which aims to promote social dialogue and cooperation between the labor market partners.

The focus of the multilateral cooperation is, according to a press release from the government, to “encourage voluntary commitments in line with Global Deal’s vision, to increase the knowledge base on social dialogue and good labor market relations, and to create platforms for knowledge exchange and increased communication around social dialogue”.

“I look forward to reaffirming our support for Global Deal’s work and mission, and to working with its partners on common goals,” said Thea M Lee, director of international affairs at the US Department of Labor.

The collaboration, which brings together nearly 130 partners in the form of governments, employee and employer organizations, individual companies and civil society organizations, is currently run by the OECD and the UN agency the International Labor Organization.
