In Ethiopia, the situation seems frozen on the Tigray front, where the war is still taking place behind closed doors for the second week. On the political front, on the other hand, the Ethiopian government reacted violently, this Friday, September 9, to a new declaration, Wednesday, of the experts of the commission of human rights of the United Nations in charge of investigating the situation in the country.
The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says to itself “ appalled “, this Friday morning, and he does not mince his words. For him, the Commission’s experts did not ” no competence nor any correct appreciation of the conflict started by the TPLF in violation of the humanitarian truce “.
He describes their call for action from the UN Security Council as ” manifestly hostile to Ethiopia “. For him, ” peace and security are not covered by their terms of reference.
What especially seems to have angered him is that the experts on Wednesday, for the second time since the resumption of fighting on August 24, denounced the two belligerents, while Ethiopia considers itself under attack. And they also claimed that Eritrea was indeed “ engaged in hostilities » and that the conflict risked « to expand to other countries “.
This verbal contest takes place while in New York, the member states of the Security Council agreed to discuss the war in Ethiopia after bitter discussions. A meeting, requested by the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Ireland, Norway and Albania, will finally be held on Monday.
