In Pokémon GO, when you open gifts, you’ll get matching postcards. Soon, however, these will no longer only be of interest to collectors. We at MeinMMO took a look at what Niantic intends to do with it.
Which postcards are you talking about? Anyone who receives a gift from a friend in Pokémon GO not only receives various items, stardust or 7 km eggs, but also a postcard from the location where the gift came from.
In order to be able to enjoy these cards even after opening them, or to keep your own cards as souvenirs before sending them, you have been able to save them in the so-called postcard book for some time.
But the postcards have not had a deeper meaning than a nice opportunity for collectors. That could change soon, because the PokeMiners, a group of dataminers, have found clues in the Pokémon GO game code that show a new feature that should even bring you a special Pokémon.
The PokeMiners are a group of dataminers who regularly search for new information in the game code. They then make them publicly available to all other players.
In the past, they’ve almost always been right in their predictions of new Pokémon and features. However, this is not official information, which is why Niantic can decide at any time to change the data again or to decide against a release.
They discovered a new feature
What was found? As the user martycochrane reports in his current reddit post, the PokeMiners came across an interesting new function during their last search in the source code, which obviously could soon be in the game.
According to this, the postcards that you get from gifts from your friends should no longer only serve to collect them, but also give you a new Pokémon, depending on where the package comes from.
To do this, you must save a certain number of postcards from a certain region in your postcard book and then you will receive an encounter with Vivillon.
Since the release of the new picture on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of Pokémon GO, trainers have suspected that the Pokémon and its preliminary developments could soon be part of Pokémon GO, which shows new Pokémon. So you could also spot Vivillon if you looked closely.
What kind of Pokemon is Vivillon?
Vivillon is a beetle and flying Pokémon from the 6th generation of games. It has the preliminary developments Purmel and Puponcho.
It looks like this: While Purmel resembles a small, gray caterpillar and Puponcho looks like a plush, white cocoon, Vivillon represents a beautiful butterfly.
It draws on numerous forms that differ from one another in terms of their colors and patterns and can be found in the most diverse regions of the world. So the respective climatic conditions of the corresponding habitat should influence the appearance of the Pokémon.
In which regions is Vivillon found? Where exactly which form of Vivillon can be found in the future and whether its pre-development Purmel can also be obtained via postcards or even spawns in the wild is not officially known yet.
The map of the PokeMiners found on August 4th, 2022 could give a first indication of the regions. This graphic shows a world map with different parts marked in different colors. These colorings could indicate the respective localities of the individual forms of Vivillon.
How strong will Vivillon get? In all likelihood, the little butterfly and its preliminary developments will not be particularly strong. Above all, it will be a collectible Pokémon. On the other hand, if you are looking for a strong Pokémon for the raids, you should rather look to the best attackers in Pokémon GO.

The finding of the new Pokémon in connection with the postcard book is really well received in the reddit community. In the past, Niantic had introduced monsters that should only be found in certain areas only regionally in the game.
For this reason, the trainers are happy that with such a function they now have the chance to get hold of a regional monster without having to travel far. According to the PokeMiners, there should also be the option of deleting several postcards at once so that your postcard book does not overflow and reach its limits. Some players also hope that it will then also be possible to increase the storage space in the postcard book, because they are already short of the 300 limit.
