Sony had released a new version of the PS5. A YouTuber has now examined them and found that you can save electricity with the new PlayStation 5. MeinMMO presents the findings to you.
How do you recognize the new version? Each PS5 console has a version number that indicates the series. So far, all consoles belonged to the 1100 series. For example, after the cryptic number CFI-1115A is the model number of the console. But in Australia, devices with the model number 1200 have now appeared.
It has been known since August 2022 that the new consoles should be significantly lighter than the previous models. But a YouTuber has noticed further improvements that should make many gamers happy. MeinMMO explains what’s behind it.

Who tested here? YouTuber Austin Evans and his team are among the best-known tech YouTubers. With over 5 million subscribers, it is one of the largest channels alongside Linus Tech Tips.
Now, in his current video, Evans has disassembled and examined the new PS5 into its component parts. He and his team noticed several things that Sony had changed inside the PS5. You can watch the entire video here:
What are the insights? Sony has changed the inner workings a lot. The circuit board, the cooling elements and other components have become smaller. This makes the console a whole lot lighter again.
But the second finding is much more exciting, because the power consumption of the PS5 also decreases as a result of the changes. Evans had tried several games on the new version. During these tests, he found that the console consumed between 20 and 30 watts less. After all, that’s between 10 and 20% of the electricity that the console needs less.
We can’t tell you whether the reduced power consumption also affects sleep mode or streaming.
The next-gen consoles consume a lot of electricity: Both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X are quite power guzzlers and need around 200 watts when gaming. This is also a reason why you should not use your PS5 for Netflix and Co, because consumption remains very high here too:

Why is Sony changing its PS5? Manufacturers are known for regularly revising and fine-tuning their product. Sony is also making new adjustments to its console. With a recent update, the WLAN performance of the PS5 is said to have improved noticeably. Customers will therefore benefit from such changes in the long term.
In addition, the consoles require less material to manufacture. That at least raises hope that there could be more consoles to buy in the future.
