The Directorate General of Health (DGS) officially announces it: it is necessary to present an authorization signed by both parents of a child in order to be able to vaccinate him against Covid. A change which follows the promulgation of the law putting an end to the exceptional regimes, dating from July 30th.

It was an exception that is no longer an exception. Following the promulgation of the law of July 30, 2022 which puts an end to the exceptional regimes created to fight against the Covid-19 epidemic, the authorization of both parents is again necessary to vaccinate all minor children against the disease. .

    Single parent since January

At the beginning of the year, the law of January 22, 2022 on the management of the health crisis provided that the vaccination of minors would no longer be linked to the authorization of both parents. This development had been initiated by the Senate and was justified as follows: “The requirement of the agreement of both parents can be the source of significant difficulties within families, potentially crystallizing disagreements and deep conflicts between parents, when there is reason to de-dramatize this event and make vaccination more easily accessible”.

    Only one possible exception

A single exception to this situation is mentioned by the DGS: the impossibility of obtaining the consent of the other parent. “This impossibility can for example be proven, when the other parent, who lives in another city, or even abroad, does not follow up, within a reasonable time, at the request of the first parent seeking their agreement for vaccination. their child’s anti-covid “explains the DGS, which makes a new form available to everyone.

Presence of a possible third party

To facilitate the vaccination process, particularly for example for parents who work on the opening hours of vaccination centers or their doctor, it is possible for a third party to accompany the child to his or her appointment. “The accompanying person must then be able to establish that he has the agreement of both parents, by presenting the parental consent form concludes the press release.
