Fortnite is still an absolute hit on all platforms. And the title from Epic Games is still very popular on the Nintendo Switch. So if you’re wondering what settings the pros use to play Fortnite on the console, we’ve got the answer for you here.
Despite poorer graphics and a lower frame rate, Fortnite has a huge player base on the Nintendo Switch. For this reason, we decided to give you an overview of the best possible settings so that you too can surprise your opponents in Battle Royale in the future.
Here we have based ourselves on the settings of large and well-known Fortnite players on the switch.
Where does our information come from? Our information comes from several YouTubers and websites that report on Fortnite. In addition, our own experiences have been incorporated into this guide.
Important: Please note, however, that your personal taste and habits play a major role here. Accordingly, it is possible that some of these suggestions may not appeal to you.
How can I adjust my settings? To get to the settings for Fortnite, press the + button on your switch in the main menu and then scroll down to the gear icon. In the “Menu” that now appears, you then logically go to “Settings”. Next, the first settings page opens directly. To switch back and forth between the different Settings tabs, use the R and L buttons on your Switch.
Now we come to the various setting options that we customize. We have divided them up for you as follows:
We explain the most important settings to you in detail under the points mentioned.
graphic
As with other games, the following applies to Fortnite: the lower the graphics settings, the better the performance. If you want to improve this, it is always worth taking a look at the settings.
graphics options
A lot of professionals recommend increasing the brightness to 125%-150%. It might also make sense to set the color blind mode to “blue blindness”. Some of the best Fortnite players use exactly these configurations. Both settings serve to ensure that you can always localize your opponents in good time and precisely.
Graphics quality & advanced graphics options
If you want to play Fortnite not only occasionally, but also competitively, the next settings are absolutely essential for you.
Be sure to set “Automatically download high-resolution textures” and “Remember high-resolution textures” to “Off” under Graphics quality. It is also extremely important that you turn off the power saving mode under the advanced graphics options.
These two settings should prevent further frame rate drops from occurring at the already quite low 30 FPS on the Switch. You can basically play Fortnite at 60 FPS on all other platforms – this is even the case on Android and iOS devices. Your game may look a little worse as a result, but these settings make a huge difference in performance.
11 Nintendo Switch tips and settings you need to know
Game
Under this tab you can make specific settings for, for example, movement in the game, combat or building. Accordingly, these are absolutely essential for the inclined player.
movement
This is where opinions differ among some well-known players. For example, while YouTuber “Zenterr” has its settings for “Toggle sprinting” and “Open doors automatically”, other players swear by turning them off. This makes sense, for example, if you are in a house with an opponent. The last thing you want is to accidentally open a door that an enemy might be lurking behind. Just try out what works best for you.
Battle
There are also different preferences when it comes to turning on “keep on the ground to switch with weapon”. However, the majority of well-known and professional Fortnite players on the Switch have this disabled. And we personally would also advise it.
Likewise, we recommend disabling “Toggle Aims”; “Mark dangers while aiming” should definitely be switched on. After all, good communication with your teammates is essential in Fortnite.
Another point that can be designed very individually is the assignment of the “Preferred inventory slots”. In the screenshot below, however, you will find a setup that some well-known players use and which we can also recommend.
building
In this sub-item, the two options “Reset building selection” and “Deactivate preprocessing” should always be switched off. The situation is different with the points “Turbo construction” and “Confirm processing when releasing”, which you should definitely switch on. Both obviously ensure that you are even faster in building.
In-game UI
Under this tab you can mainly customize the HUD of the game. This is the interface that you can see on the screen during your matches. This includes the mini-map, your life bars or your inventory slots.
HUD Options
The “HUD size” is set to around 70-80% by most of the professional gamers on the Switch. It is now very important that you switch off the “Show number of observers”. Not only does this reduce unnecessary clutter on your HUD, but it also speeds up gameplay a bit, making the game run smoother.

controller control
Under this tab you can make fine adjustments for your controller or the joycons. These are extremely important if you really want to be successful in the Battle Royale.
steering
The first two settings “Autom. Run With Controller” and “Build Instantly (Builder Pro)” have most of the most popular Fortnite players enabled on the Switch. And with good reason: You are immediately on the move a little faster in the already very hectic game.
Another setting that many pros use is reducing the “Edit Hold Time” from the default 0.200 seconds to the lowest possible value of 0.100 seconds. This will certainly help you if you want to go faster.
The “vibration”, on the other hand, is switched off for many Fortnite professionals. Even if the additional stimulation makes the game fundamentally more immersive, it can unfortunately also be annoying, especially in combat – especially when it comes to precise aiming.
sensitivity
The settings for the different sensitivities are initially set to 4 by default. However, we would recommend that you set this to 6 first. You should also correct the “Sensitivity Multiplier (Building Mode)” to 1.5x.
With these settings you can then try out whether you want to readjust them again.
Alternatively, you also have a variety of advanced sensitivity configurations that you can customize to your liking. However, since the sensitivity sliders on the Switch version of Fortnite are not so easy to adjust, so that even the smallest change can have a major impact on gameplay, we would advise against it for the time being.
For experienced and curious players, we show you advanced settings in the following screenshots, which are based on those of some professional players.
controllers
Here you can change the controller configuration, i.e. the assignment of the buttons on your controller.
Many successful players rely on “Combat Pro” when choosing their controller configuration. This not only fits best with the joycons, it is also very similar to the Fortnite versions for other platforms. This can help you if you have previously played Fortnite on the PS4, for example.
In addition to the settings mentioned, your Fortnite gaming experience on the switch can also be further optimized with tweaks such as reducing the TV screen resolution to 720p in the system settings or gadgets such as an Ethernet dongle, which makes a direct internet connection the standard -Console via a LAN cable allows:
*Affiliate links. We receive a small commission from Amazon if you make a purchase. Thanks for your support!
The OLED model of the switch, on the other hand, already has an integrated LAN port in the docking station.
