Scientists warn We are not ready for the next supervolcano

The world is faced with dangers frequently. The greatest danger to the world is us, that is, humanity. According to the news of Science Alert, University of Birmingham professor of volcanology Michael Cassidy and Lara Mani of the University of Cambridge noted that the probability of large-scale volcanic eruptions in the next century may be hundreds of times higher than the probability of asteroid and comet impacts. The two researchers argued that while we prepare for asteroids with a forward-looking view, we do little for a more likely supervolcanic eruption.

Governments and global agencies like NASA spend hundreds of millions of dollars a year defending the planet against asteroids.

NOT A COMPARATIVE INVESTMENT

NASA is pursuing a new mission in this regard. The agency will soon attempt to divert an asteroid off course, as part of a mission called the Double Asteroid Reversal Test (DART). The DART mission will cost approximately $330 million. While this mission will save us from an asteroid, Cassidy and Mani said that this had to change, noting that there was no comparable investment in preparing for a super-explosion.

CAN LEAD TO FOOD FACILITIES AND CRISES

Cassidy and Mani stated that since the early 1800s, the human population has increased and some large cities have been established near dangerous volcanoes. Therefore, a possible volcanic eruption in one place can lead to food shortages and other crises elsewhere.
