Before last season, Lundkvist left Swedish hockey to take the chance in North America. The big talent had then really impressed in the SHL with Luleå and had also been selected for Tre Kronor’s WC squad.
The young defenseman also went straight into the hot air with the NY Rangers and was listed for 25 NHL games in his debut season last year. But for this season, the 22-year-old, who is predicted to have a bright future, wants to play even more games in the world’s best hockey league.

The newspaper New York Post reported on Friday that the Rangers are in full swing with trying the Swede and they have also received a lot of criticism for letting go of a promising player so easily. But the club instead wants another player who matches his value in a straight line.
Now the same newspaper points out the two most likely alternatives for Nils Lundkvist. The first NHL team is the Montreal Canadiens where there is an opening on the back side and a straight trade would send the young back Jordan Harris in the opposite direction.

The other option is said to be the Detroit Red Wings. Where the long-standing NHL team has several young defenders behind the super talent Moritz Seider and Lundkvist would have a good chance of playing for himself a regular place in that competition.
