Pole vault European champion Wilma Murto is participating in the Diamond League’s two-day final event in Zurich, which starts on Wednesday. The women’s pole vault is included already on the opening day of the Games.
Murto was recently suffering from the flu, which is why he did not compete in the Sweden match. However, he has recovered for Wednesday’s race in Zurich.
– It is quite certain that I will compete, Murto said on Tuesday.
According to Murro, fitness is a small question mark after the flu and the resulting short training break.
– Good condition in itself is not going to get lost, but I haven’t really done anything for a week. Today I did a small preparatory workout. I’m going to the race with an open mind, if there’s no back pack with the disease.

Morris, who won silver at the World Championships in Oregon, has jumped 485 this summer, like Murro. Morris has been a long-standing name in women’s pole vaulting for years. Kennedy, on the other hand, finished third in the World Championships.
A regular visitor to the Diamond League
The last Finn to reach the top three in the final event of the Diamond League is Tero Pitkämäki. In that season, he won the overall race of the series.
Murto competed for a couple of weeks in the Diamond League in Lausanne, where he was third with a score of 461. In addition to this, the 24-year-old Finnish jumper has reached the top three in the Diamond League in Gateshead in July 2021.
