He still regrets a life threatening mistake
Kill Bill: Volume 1 is one of Quentin Tarantino’s most popular films. The director himself will remember the shoot with mixed feelings. He brought leading actress Uma Thurman namely by sheer carelessness in a car stunt in mortal danger. Kill Bill star Uma Thurman had an accident while filming Tarantino with serious consequences

For the first part of the revenge epic, a scene was shot in which ex-assassin Beatrix Kiddo (Thurman) is driving her car to see archenemy Bill (David Carradine). The star should steer a convertible across a road at almost 70 km/h.

However, according to an interview in the New York Times, a stunt person did not think the car was safe. The actress didn’t want to do the stunt but was told by a “angry” Tarantino pushed for it. She finally did it. But while filming the scene she lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree.

The actress injured her knee and neck. Equally bad, however, was that the notorious producer Harvey Weinstein apparently wanted to cover up the incident for PR reasons. Thurman only went public with the accident years later. Recordings of the accident had to be recovered again. And Tarantino regrets it like no other. He explained to Deadline:

Pushing her to do this stunt is the moment of my life that I regret the most. The relationship between me and Uma suffered as a result. It was a breach of trust. Kill Bill star Uma Thurman wasn’t able to reveal the truth until years later

To ensure safety, he tried the stunt himself before shooting the scene. Nonetheless, he rightly felt guilty about her accident. According to him, he later helped her to find the recordings of the accident and thus to underpin her public accusation against Weinstein’s various assaults.

the good relationship between Thurman and Tarantino appears to be in existence again. And the film history is enriched by a masterpiece thanks to the collaboration between the two, even if the director’s behavior is difficult to excuse.
