The controversial project was started in 2018 and the goal is to increase species richness and protect plants and animals.
It is, among other things, about releasing the vegetation by letting the grass grow, saving stumps and old dead trees and creating the conditions for new life.
No sloppy mowing
To make people understand why it looks the way it does, signs have been put up with an explanation.
“Animal and plant life thrive here. It is about energy efficiency, biological diversity and protection and food for insects and birds. So we have not been careless with the grass cutting, but save energy and promote animal and plant life.”
But the overgrown parts have caused some visitors to think it looks unkempt.
– We cut the grass as before near the roads to make it look neat and then we let the vegetation up further into the cemetery, says Ann-Sofia Molin.
“Everything is connected”
The cemetery landscape engineer continues:
– If nature is not in balance, a lot happens that is not so pleasant. Many people want to go out into the forest and pick berries, but if there are no insects, there will be no berries, to take an example. Everything is connected, says Ann-Sofia Molin.
