Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are working on a flagship series for Amazon. The agent adventure Citadel is an important prestige project for the streamer. But now the cost has exploded to such an extent that only The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is even more expensive. One reason for this is bitter bickering behind the scenes.
There have been two competing visions for the Amazon series by the Avengers 4 directors
This is reported, among other things, by The Hollywood Reporter. As a result, there were two different visions about the story and dramaturgy of the series. Joe Russo was able to team up with co-creators Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Mission: Impossible 4) disagree.
The streamer ultimately went with Russo’s version and fired Appelbaum. Elaborate reshoots, new hires and costly corona measures raised the budget to $235 million.
When is Citadel coming to Amazon Prime?
Citadel is intended to be the starting point for several spin-offs centered around the culture and homeland of individual spies. But even the mother series does not yet have a launch date on Amazon. Based on the state of production, we expect publication in mid-2023. When there’s no more bickering.
