Stratfords COVID 19 assessment center is on the move

The COVID-19 Clinical Assessment Center in Stratford is moving to Douro Street next week.

The COVID-19 Clinical Assessment Center in Stratford is moving to Douro Street next week.

Currently located inside the Stratford Rotary Complex, the assessment center run by the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance will begin operating at its new home in the Stratford Medical Center on Wednesday, hospital officials have announced.

The assessment center has been offering physician consultations and COVID-19 tests to eligible individuals with symptoms since November 2020. More than 43,000 people have accessed the service since it first opened, officials said.

Current operating hours will be maintained after the move. The assessment center is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Physician assessments are available from noon to 5 pm, and COVID-19 testing appointments are available from 9 am to 5 pm

“We are currently operating three days per week because the demand for assessments has decreased since the spring,” said Lori Merner, the assessment centre’s director of patient care. “We have the capacity to increase operations if required in the fall.”

Local health-care officials recommend making an appointment for a clinical assessment if you have symptoms of COVID-19 and any of the following apply:

  • You are at higher risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19 and need to get tested and assessed for COVID-19 treatment;
  • You have been directed to visit a COVID-19 clinical assessment center by your primary-care provider; gold
  • You feel that you cannot safely monitor your COVID-19 symptoms at home and need to be seen by a health-care provider.

Appointments with a physician are available for individuals who may qualify for antiviral treatment or for those who do not qualify for a COVID-19 test but have symptoms of respiratory illness.

COVID-19 tests for those who are eligible need to be booked in advance.
