A strange new trend from social networks, “vabbing” consists of inserting a finger into the vagina to collect secretions that are tapped behind the ear, in the neck, at the level of the neckline and in the hollow of the wrists, as a “perfume”. The goal is to attract potential sexual partners. If it is not dangerous, this practice is nevertheless not recommended, according to Dr. Odile Bagot, gynecologist and member of the committee of experts of Doctissimo.

Coming from the contraction of the words “vagina” and “dabbing” (dabbing in English, editor’s note), “vabbing” is a neologism invented by American actresses, with a practice that has become popular thanks to social networks.

    Collecting secretions to “perfume” them

“Social networks are pushing forward all kinds of new trends and that’s part of it,” begins Dr. Bagot first. “To begin with, there is no evidence of the presence of pheromones in vaginal secretions, so if this practice has an effect, it is first of all in an excitation in the person himself” adds the specialist.

“Then, in case of infection present in the vagina, such as vaginosis, the secretions have a foul odor, so it is not recommended to spread these infected secretions on your body, even if the risk of infection for others is minimal”.

    Pay attention to hygiene

If the practice of vabbing is not dangerous in itself, it must nevertheless be practiced with care. “It is better to have short nails and clean hands, because the risk of contamination of the vagina by a bacterium present on the skin, such as a staphylococcus, for example, also exists” adds the gynecologist.

In addition to not really being effective, vabbing also comes with risks. So beware of these dubious practices from social networks, often promoted only to create buzz.
