Two police officers are charged with gross misconduct in connection with several incidents linked to a murder investigation in Borås. A defense attorney and a lawyer are also charged.

Among other things, a witness, who had already been questioned in detail, was brought in a further time and questioned by a police officer who was not formally involved in the criminal investigation. The questioning took place without the prosecutor’s knowledge in the defense lawyer’s room.

The same police officer and a colleague are also charged for improperly handling the seizure of a mobile phone in the same investigation. The phone, which they received from a close relative of the crime victim, was suspected of containing footage that was important to solving the murder.

One of the police officers is also charged with breach of confidentiality because secret information from the murder investigation was spread.

In addition to that, two other people are also charged. One of them was a paralegal who worked at the law firm where the unauthorized interrogation took place. According to the indictment, the lawyer helped to bring about the interrogation, and the person is therefore charged with aiding and abetting gross misconduct.

“I am also indicting the defense lawyer and the one police officer for giving and taking bribes, respectively. I believe that it was an undue benefit, among other things, that the policeman was allowed to have a workroom at the law firm for about a year, the same room in which the questioning in question was held,” says preliminary investigation leader Nicklas Englund in a press release.

The witness and the next of kin are plaintiffs in the case.
