The following are spoilers for the first 2 episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Amazon series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has finally launched, bringing fans back to the world of Middle-earth. In the midst of the epic story and the visual bombast, an exciting mystery is presented right at the start. We’re not talking about Sauron, but the strange one stranger falling from the sky as a meteorite.
Ever since the first teaser trailer, Middle-earth fans have been puzzling over what the mysterious meteorite man is all about. Could he even be the latest form of the missing Sauron? After the first 2 episodes we still don’t have a real answer but some clues as to who the stranger really is. We may already have a young Gandalf or Saruman met.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power hides clues that point to Gandalf and Saruman
In the very first episode, a meteorite falls on Middle-earth. In the resulting crater, the young harpist Nori Brandyfuss (Markella Kavenagh) finds one confused, taciturn and naked manwho she takes into her care. This character, only called The Stranger in the credits (played by Daniel Weyman), clearly has magical abilities. It might even be about an Istari act?

Gandalf and Saruman
The Istari are, in short, a group of higher and godlike beings from Tolkien lore, but most fans consider them wizard are known. Among them are Gandalf and Saruman. That the stranger could be a member of the Istari is suggested by a scene in episode 2 in which he communicated with fireflies. Gandalf possessed the same gift.
However, the clearest indication can be found in Amazon series soundtrack. There the stranger has his own and very catchy musical theme. This is called in a later track Wise one picked up again. And translated in the one invented by Tolkien Quenya language means this: Istari.
All in all five Istari members are known in Tolkien’s works. Could the Lord of the Rings series have shown us the first arrival of Gandalf or Saruman on Middle-earth? There is definitely a certain resemblance to the grey-bearded Gandalf. His later association with the hobbits could be explained by a shared adventure with their forerunners, the harfeet.
Of the Wise one– Soundtrack title with the music theme of the stranger could also indicate that it is in fact a young Curumo aka Saruman, who is not only Saruman the White, but Gandalf as well Saruman the Wise was called.
Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings series? Which speaks against the theory
For Lord of the Rings fans there is a big BUT, which speaks against the theory. Because in the template by JRR Tolkien, the Istari only in the Third Age sent to Middle-earth to assist the peoples of the continent in the fight against Sauron. However, The Rings of Power is set in the Second Age, well before their arrival.

So the stranger couldn’t actually be an Istari. Or is it? It is already known that the Lord of the Rings series will streamline the chronology of Middle-earth history spanning thousands of years and alter it for the series format. In this version of the story so could the Istari much earlier Pop up.
And given their story from the books, it would even make sense that they would be sent to Middle-earth right now. Because the Danger from Sauron, Morgoth’s most loyal general already exists and is the driving force behind Galadriel’s (Morfydd Clark) story on the show, convinced the threat hasn’t gone away.
Whether the stranger will actually be an Istari like Gandalf or Saruman, or us with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power a completely different revelation hopefully we’ll find out by the end of season one. The finale of the eight-episode first season will be shown on Amazon Prime Video on October 14, 2022.
