In the past year, after the Taliban took power in Afghanistan, the border police have not carried out a single deportation to the country, reports Ekot in Sveriges Radio.

Previously, Sweden and Afghanistan had a readmission agreement, which facilitated the execution of deportations to the country. But it ceased to apply after the Taliban took power, which led to the border police not being able to enforce any deportation to Afghanistan in the past year.

– We need to have travel documents for these individuals and there must be travel routes, says Anna Garphult, deputy section chief at the border police to Ekot.

Today, the border police has around 2,300 open cases with people who have deportation orders to Afghanistan.
