In Germany, new measures have been implemented within the scope of energy saving. In order to reduce dependence on gas imported from Russia and to save energy, the lights of public buildings, statues, monuments and signboards were turned off as of 22:00 local time. Public buildings other than hospitals will not be heated above 19 degrees, and areas where heavy physical work is done may be colder than 19 degrees. With the measures taken, the government aims to reduce gas use by 2 percent.
LIGHTS WILL BE TURNED OFF AT 22:00
In Germany, the lights were turned off between 22:00 and 06:00, within the framework of the decision taken by the federal government to save energy.
According to the decision, the lights of public buildings, statues, monuments and signboards will be turned off from 22:00 local time.
WILL NOT BE HEATED OVER 19 DEGREES
In addition, public buildings other than hospitals will not be heated above 19 degrees.
Areas where heavy physical work is done can be colder than 19 degrees.
Areas used by people as crowded, such as fairs and large halls, may not be heated at all.
Before these measures, the minimum temperature was set at 20 degrees in public areas such as municipal buildings, administration buildings, libraries and museums.
In addition, the doors will be kept closed in order to prevent heat loss in the stores, the minimum heating requirement in the lease agreements will be suspended for 6 months, and the methods of saving energy will be explained to the public.
VALID FOR 6 MONTHS
With these measures, which have been implemented and will be valid for 6 months, the government aims to reduce gas use by 2 percent.
In the city center of Cologne, after 22:00 local time, besides the signboards and the lighting of public buildings, the lights projected on the buildings for aesthetic purposes and the lights of the shop windows were turned off, while only the street lamps were left on.
With a decision taken by the Cologne Municipality, the lighting of the historical Cologne cathedral was turned off as of August 9th.
