On September 22, the Film Institute presents which film will continue to compete in the fight for the Oscar statuette.

In addition to Jens Sjögren’s biographical story about Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the fight is between Magnus Gertten’s documentary “Nelly & Nadine” and “Boy from heaven”, Tarik Saleh’s political thriller set in Egypt.

Saleh was awarded the screenplay prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Ruben Östlund received the finest prize, the Golden Palm, at the same festival for his contemporary satire “Triangle of sadness”. But since the film mostly has English dialogue, it cannot be considered for a Swedish Oscar entry, but must hope for a nomination in the best film category.

The Oscars will be held in Los Angeles on March 12. Before that, the final award nominations were presented on January 24.

The last Swedish film to be nominated for an Oscar for best international feature film was Ruben Östlund’s “The square” five years ago.
