In the town of Vuhledar in Donbas, Taras is one of the first to sign up for battle after the invasion. His unit holds its line inside the city, but only just barely.
– We have nothing to beat them back with. We are defenseless, he says, adding that in the last week alone, many of the older soldiers have been lost.
A few hundred kilometers away, in Ukraine’s fourth largest city, Dnipro, there is a party for everyone who wants to. Many young people have gathered here. Partly to escape everyday life for a while and have fun, partly to collect money for the fighting soldiers.
– Those who live under shelling probably don’t want everyone in Ukraine to feel stressed or sad. If I lived under occupation, I would want others to be happy, says Anastasia.
