It will be the first time the ceremony where a new prime minister is formally given the go-ahead to form a government has taken place outside central London since Churchill met the Queen at Heathrow Airport in 1952.
Outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson will also be received in Scotland when he tenders his resignation.
According to tradition, the new Prime Minister arrives shortly after the outgoing one meets the Queen. Then the queen, who is head of state, asks the successor to form a government.
The country’s Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is the favorite to succeed Boris Johnson as Prime Minister when Conservative Party members vote. The winner will be announced on Monday.
The Queen is at Balmoral on her summer vacation, which traditionally takes place in October. She was supposed to go to London for the ceremony, but that trip has now been cancelled.
The Queen has been advised by doctors to cut back on her official appearances, and has had trouble standing and walking.
