The last leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, has died at the age of 91, the AP news agency reports with reference to Russian media. According to Russian RIA, Gorbachev died after a long illness. Gorbachev was the leader of the Soviet Union between 1985 and 1991. In 1990 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. – It was he who untied the last knots that made it possible for Russia to move on from the Soviet Union, says Russia expert Malcolm Dixelius.
