The Social Democrats have two Sami parliamentary candidates. SVT Sápmi has met reindeer owner and lawyer Inger-Ann Omma in Lycksele.
– I fight for regional politics, rural and inland issues. It is skewed when we look at energy production and the debate that has shaped society. It is problematic when we have a surplus of energy, but still runaway electricity prices.
For her, it is an honor that the Social Democrats’ inland municipalities nominated her as their first choice. She is the twelfth name on the party’s parliamentary list in Västerbotten.
– I am not satisfied, but I find myself in the decision that the party took. If you want to be involved and make an impact, you are not satisfied with twelfth place, says Inger-Ann Omma.
The Social Democrats have the most Sami candidates, but only two candidates for the Riksdag
In total, there are 191 candidates who are on the Sámi Parliament’s voter list, and who are running for the Riksdag, municipal council and regional council. The Social Democrats have the most Sami candidates; 42, but only two candidates for the Riksdag.
What do you think that many Sámi have chosen to have the Green Party behind them instead of joining the Social Democrats?
– I think that it is close at hand, the Sami perception of nature and the environment. I understand that, these values are also close to my heart, but at the same time the values of the Social Democrats are something that I can stand behind and at the same time work for a Sami perspective.
Maria Gardfall from Storuman is the second parliamentary candidate for the Social Democrats, she is in 26th place on Västerbotten’s parliamentary list.
National politics has been an interest of Inger-Ann Omma since she was a child. In the clip, she explains why.
