The Dark Knight was sued by a town called Batman

Among the many reasons why filed a lawsuit against a film this case is probably one of the most bizarre: After Christopher Nolan released one of the most celebrated DC blockbusters ever with The Dark Knight in 2008, the mayor of a Turkish city was less than enthusiastic.

He filed a lawsuit against the film because Nolan changed the name of the City called Batman (yes, you read that right) misappropriated for The Dark Knight.

Batman Mayor wasn’t happy about The Dark Knight

Following the release of The Dark Knight, various sites such as The Irish Times reported in 2008 that the mayor of the Turkish city of Batman Huseyin Kalkan filed a lawsuit against the DC film. His reasoning was that it only one batman in the world what the American producers are said to have exploited to use the city’s name without being asked.

Well, the mayor probably didn’t consider that Batman is also a comic book character that has existed since 1940. Apparently nothing came of the lawsuit, as close advisors are said to have told him directly that he hardly any legal chances would have. After the original reports on The Dark Knight lawsuit of 2008, at least no new articles have appeared developing this incident.
