The meeting is about establishing a mechanism that will ensure that the countries really fulfill what was agreed upon in Madrid earlier this summer. Then Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) and her Finnish colleague Pekka Haavisto signed an agreement with Turkey which ultimately led to the veto against the countries’ NATO applications being dropped.
SVT was able to tell on Friday that Pekka Haavisto announced that the meeting will be held in Finland. But the Finnish side did not want to say when the meeting will take place, instead referring to the month of August.
In an interview with SVT today, on the other hand, Ann Linde says that the meeting will take place on Friday, which is also claimed by Turkish information.
– It will take place on Friday in Finland. It’s about how we should follow up on the agreement Turkey, Sweden and Finland signed in Madrid during the NATO summit, a prerequisite for Turkey to approve the applications from Sweden and Finland, and now it’s a follow-up meeting, she says.
From the Swedish side, the delegation is led by Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson’s employee.
– The Swedish delegation is led by State Secretary Oscars Stenström, says Alice Thoms at the Foreign Ministry’s press service.
