Dutch police found stowaways on the landing gear of a cargo plane arriving from Johannesburg, South Africa, to Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. In the statement, using the expressions “The man was found alive in the nose wheel section of the plane and was taken to the hospital in a stable condition”, it was stated that the age and nationality of the man in question have not been determined yet.
FLYING IN LANDING GEAR FOR 11 HOURS
“It is quite remarkable that the man is still alive,” said Joanna Helmonds, spokesperson for the Royal Netherlands Military Police.
According to the flight data of the plane, which belongs to the Italian cargo airline Cargolux Italia, it was stated that it made a transfer in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, on its flight from Johannesburg to Amsterdam on Sunday. It is not yet clear whether the stowaway boarded the plane from South Africa or Kenya.
It was stated that the Johannesburg-Amsterdam flight took about 11 hours, and that it is very rare for a stowaway to survive due to the cold and low oxygen at high altitude.
