The verdict comes in a case where the children of two people who died in a car accident in 2014 sued the car company because the roof of the car, a Ford F-250 pickup, was defective and did not hold when the car flipped upside down.
— I didn’t think anyone could sell a car with such a bad roof. The whole damn construction is useless, you might as well have driven a convertible, says James Butler Jr, lawyer for the affected family, who has shown that at least 80 similar accidents have occurred with the car model in the United States.
However, Ford does not believe that the evidence holds up or that they deliberately manufactured cars without adequate safety.
“Our thoughts go out to the family, but we do not believe the verdict is supported by the evidence presented and we intend to appeal,” Ford wrote in a statement.
