At least 15 people have died after heavy monsoon rains on Saturday caused floods and mudslides in northern India.

The northern state of Himachal Pradesh, which is part of the Himalayan massif, has been hit hard by floods this year and accidents are reported from several places and many roads have been destroyed.

Many of the dead were from the same village in Mandi district, where at least two houses were swept away in mudslides. In the neighboring district of Kangra, a railway bridge has been destroyed, and 19 people had to be rescued from roofs after floods about six miles to the south.

Earlier in the summer, around 50 people died in floods in northwestern India.
