A Brantford man has been arrested as part of an ongoing effort by Brantford Police to address child pornography on growing social media platforms.
Police said the 20-year-old man, arrested Tuesday, was investigated at the beginning of the year when the Internet Child Exploitation (ICU) unit got information that a social media account had uploaded a video containing child pornography.
Police tracked down the address linked to the account and executed a search warrant on Marlborough Street on Jan. 31, seizing several electronic devices that were held for forensic examination.
After a lengthy investigation, images and videos of child pornography were found on the devices and the man was arrested, charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of making child pornography available.
In a news release, police said they believe further offenders will be arrested and charges laid as they continue to forensically examine the devices.
Launched last October, Brantford’s Project Dilemma has now seen the arrest of at least five men, including a 22-year-old and a 45-year-old arrested at different times in February, a 19-year-old Etobicoke man in March and a 22-year-old Brantford man in March.
Police have seized numerous cell phones, computers and other electronic devices, using search warrants and court orders.
The goal of Project Dilemma, which is funded through the province, is to identify and arrest those involved in child pornography as a way to stop the victimization of children, especially crimes which often lead those who possess child porn to go on to sexually abuse children .
