In the years that followed, Van Ommen often had to show his mediating qualities, including in a heated argument with a neighboring riding school owner who was annoyed by the parking behavior of parents at the school. A sad low point was the accident of student Koen van Keulen, who went missing during a holiday with family and friends. After a few days of uncertainty, he turned out to have died after a fall. The Baarnsch Lyceum became a meeting point where schoolmates and teachers of Koen could share their grief.
