According to the Cultural Environment Act, antiquities are objects from prehistoric or older times (before 1850) that have no owner when they are found.

If you find an ancient find that consists wholly or partly of gold, silver, bronze or another copper alloy, you are obliged to offer the state to redeem it for payment, so-called obligation to bid.
Reward
Finder’s pay is given for ancient discoveries made by chance in or at an ancient site and related to it. The finder’s fee corresponds to one tenth of the find’s value and is tax-free.
Redemption compensation
Redemption compensation is given for antiquities found in circumstances other than in or at an antiquities deposit. The state has the right of pre-emption to certain ancient finds, which means that the finder must offer the state to buy the objects. The redemption compensation corresponds to the entire value of the find and is taxable.
Antiquities that the state does not redeem are returned to the finder.
The cultural-historical value of the find is generally much greater than its economic value.
