There are many of us who have stood with a bottle of wine that we want to serve cold NOW.

But how do you do it? Can you use something other than ice?

In the clip, sommelier Sarah Lindstrand Mboge shows three smart tips on how to cool the bottle – quickly.

When you spontaneously want to open a bottle of white, it’s sad to have to serve it warm. Then you can use some of Godare’s wine expert Sarah Lindstrand Mboge’s smart tips on how to cool down the bottle within a few minutes.

– My best trick is to use an ice bucket and fill it with half water and half ice. Then it’s just a matter of spinning the wine bottle a little from time to time and you’ll quickly have a cold wine, she says.

If you don’t have ice at home, there are several other methods to get the right temperature. Check out the clip above and she’ll show!

The right temperature for your wine

But how do you know which temperature is right? And how hot or cold should a red or white wine be to taste best?

The right degrees give the wine the right balance and taste best when served at the following temperatures:

  • Right temperature white wines. White wines generally taste best at 8-10 degrees. Tasty white wines should preferably be served a little warmer so that all the aromas and flavors come to their rightful place, while light wines benefit from being served below 6 degrees.
  • Right temperature red wine. Almost all red wines thrive best at 16–18 degrees, then the aromas and flavors come out more. Light red wines, on the other hand, should preferably be served at 14–16 degrees.
  • The right temperature sparkling wine. Champagne and other more expensive sparkling wines are best drunk at 9–10 degrees. Regular prosecco and cava are best served at 8–10 degrees.
  • Right temperature rosé wine. Just like prosecco, rosé wine is best served at 8-10 degrees to bring out the flavors.
  • The right temperature dessert wines. White dessert wines or white sweet wines should generally be served at a temperature of 8-10 degrees. Red sweet wines are served warmer at 16-18 degrees.

    What is room temperature wine?

The expression to serve red wine “at room temperature” came about when we still had central heating in our homes, according to Systembolaget. Back then we often had around 16–18 degrees at home.

Today it is considerably warmer – often a bit over 20 degrees, so room temperature wine is always too warm!
