One of the best video game adaptations disappears

Video game adaptations don’t have a good reputation. Although Hollywood has made some ambitious and costly attempts in this field in recent years, it has mostly ended in disappointment. From Assassin’s Creed to Warcraft to Mortal Kombat: Here was massive wasted potential.

One exception is the 2018 Tomb Raider reboot. Directed by Cold Prey mastermind Roar Uthaug, Ex Machina star Alicia Vikander slips into the role of legendary video game heroine Lara Croft. The result is a action and suspenseful adventure filmwhich definitely captures the spirit of the template.

  • Tomb Raider: Alicia Vikander convinces as Lara Croft

    The plot of Tomb Raider is based on the video game reboot of the same name from 2013. We are thus experiencing the Origin story of the later female adventurer Lara Croft, who embarks on a dangerous journey. She wants to find out what happened to her father, who disappeared without a trace seven years ago. She gets involved with the shady organization Trinity.

    In addition to the story, the Tomb Raider film takes up numerous other characteristics of the underlying video game series. Starting with finding out secrets, fighting nature and various opponents, right through to the impressive action scenes. Tomb Raider is very good at that furious movements of the game into an adrenaline-charged cinematic language.

    The fact that the Tomb Raider film works so well is also due to its leading lady, Alicia Vikander. She is the second actress, after Angelina Jolie, to portray Lara Croft in a live-action film. Her interpretation not only focuses on the action and survival elements, but also explores them fragile side the iconic figure that has shaped pop culture since 1994.
