Denmark will invest more than 40 billion Danish kroner (equivalent to roughly 57 billion Swedish kronor) in building new naval vessels over the next 20 years, Minister of Defense Morten Bødskov announces.

The government has appointed a working group tasked with finding out whether the Danish business community can handle investments of the order of magnitude planned.

– It is not reasonable, especially in a time of war in Europe, that the Danish defense has problems with getting ships and other equipment built, says Bødskov.

The Minister of Defense does not state how many new warships will be built, but explains that many of the current ships will become obsolete over time.

– Our signals intelligence vessels and our frigates are getting older, so there is a need to replace them, says Bødskov.
