Today, the government is expected to present proposals that will reduce electricity costs for households. The proposal is said to cover over SEK 15 billion.

The proposal will be presented at 1:30 pm at a press conference with Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson (S), Finance Minister Mikael Damberg (S) and Energy Minister Khashayar Farmanbar (S).

The moderates recently presented a proposal for a high-cost protection for the electricity bill. The party’s economic policy spokesperson Elisabeth Svantesson then stated that “one can imagine that the state would take 75 percent of the cost of anything over one kroner per kilowatt hour”.

According to this model, the cost to the state would be SEK 15 billion for a three-month period this winter.

The Swedish government’s new proposal is said to include a larger sum than that.

Also last winter, the government and the Riksdag compensated households for the high electricity prices. That support was estimated to cost the treasury 7.5 billion kroner.
