Guild Wars 2 confirms its Steam release for August 23rd. The developers announced this in a press release. There is also a new pack to buy and, for the first time, Twitch Drops for the MMORPG.
When is GW2 coming to Steam? Many hints already indicated the release, but now it is officially known. Matching the 10th anniversary of Guild Wars 2, the popular MMORPG will appear on Steam on August 23rd. There you can download the game for free and play from 9:00 in the morning.
With the release, the developers ArenaNet promise to draw and inspire many new players into the world of Guild Wars 2. There is a new package in the Steam shop that is specifically aimed at new fans of the MMORPG, but may also be of interest to old hands.
What new package is there? Matching the launch on Steam, the “Complete Collection” of the MMORPG will also appear on the platform. For around 100 euros you can buy all the expansions that Guild Wars 2 has to offer.
So the package includes:
So you get all the content relevant to the story of Guild Wars 2 at a fair price considering the prices of the individual expansions and stories themselves.
The MMORPG itself will also be made even more interesting for newcomers for the start on Steam. So you don’t get the first mount at level 80, but directly from level 10. The entry into the story and the game itself should also be revised.
The latest expansion End of Dragons is also included:
First Twitch Drops for Guild Wars 2
What drops are there? On August 23, support for twitch drops in the MMORPG will also begin. So you can link your game account to your twich and collect coveted rewards for watching.
The first drops in Guild Wars 2 will run from August 23rd to August 28th. These will include classic skins, EXP boosts and even an exclusive skin that will make your eyes glow purple.
Downer for existing fans: The mood of the fans is still a bit depressed. Because existing accounts, i.e. everyone who is already playing Guild Wars 2, cannot log in via Steam. Linking these accounts will not be possible and you will still have to use the old launcher.
Many people in the community had hoped until recently that this would change, but this is not the case now. After all, people from Steam and “old” fans can play together, because the servers on which the Steam players are on the move are the same.
What do you think? Do you already play Guild Wars 2? Or have you always wanted to check it out and the Steam release offers the perfect opportunity to do so? Write it to us in the comments here on MeinMMO.
German players love MMORPGs like GW2 and ESO, but don’t like Final Fantasy that much – why is that?
