The Fifa Council Office has suspended the Indian Football Federation (AIFF) due to “ serious violation “, which calls into question the organization of the Women’s World Cup under 17 years scheduled for India in the fall. The AIFF was to appoint a new president in December 2020 but problems with constitutional amendments delayed the appointment process, leading Fifa to sanction the Indian institution. In May, India’s highest court ruled to dissolve the AIFF and appoint a three-person jury to hold elections by September 15. The Women’s Under-17 World Cup, initially scheduled for November 2020, and several times postponed due to Covid-19, is to take place in India from October 11 to 30.
