Authorities in India reported that 38 years later the remains of a soldier lost in an avalanche while patrolling the Siachen Glacier in the Himalayas were found.
Manish Kumar, a senior official from the state of Uttarakhand, said that the remains of the body of Chandrashekhar Harbola, who disappeared 38 years ago, have been found and will be brought to his hometown.
Kumar stated that the identity of the deceased was determined from the number on his badge.
There was no statement from the Indian Ministry of Defense on the matter.
Chandrashekhar Harbola was caught in an avalanche and disappeared during a patrol operation on the Siachen Glacier in 1984. (AA)
