Earlier in July there was a real transfer bomb in Swedish women’s football. Swedish national team goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl, 39, had signed a contract through 2023 with Djurgården, which was announced in the middle of the fiery European football championship.
On Monday evening, she made her debut for her new club against national team acquaintance Nilla Fischer when Linköping came to visit Stockholm.
Amalie Vansgaard has the lead in the women’s Swedish women’s shooting league and before the match had scored twelve goals in 14 matches. It didn’t take long before the Dane would make her 13th.
Assisted by Cornelia Kapocs, Vansgaard struck with a direct shot. Lindahl was on the ball but couldn’t prevent a lead goal.
Just before half time it was 2-0. A shot from Stina Lennartsson was directed at a Djurgårdsback and received a high, unpleasant ball trajectory that bounced over Lindahl.
“We were really good in the first half, a well-executed match where we read the game well,” says Linköping’s Michelle De Jongh in Viaplay’s broadcast.
The blue-and-white home team got a reduction when it was Lindahl who launched a quick attack. A dream finish later from Tilde Lindwall and the ball was in the goal.
— In the second half they put a little pressure on us when we don’t play our game, says De Jongh.
Djurgården never managed to equalize and the match ended 1–2.
