For cyclists who participate in the Vuelta, a start abroad is slightly absurd, says Winkels. “The Giro started in Budapest, the Tour in Copenhagen and now the Vuelta in Utrecht. That doesn’t really fit in this time of sustainability, because the entire caravan has to travel to Spain again for the next round.”
